Cottonwood Pass (County Road 306)Ā sits at 12,126 feetĀ above sea level and connects Buena VistaĀ on the eastern side with Taylor Park ReservoirĀ on the western side. The pass winds through parts of the Sawatch RangeĀ and is typically open from late May to early November, depending on snow conditions.
š Start Point:Ā Buena Vista, Coloradoš End Point:Ā Taylor Park or Almont (if you continue west)or vice versa - š Round-trip drive time:Ā 2ā3 hours (longer with photo stops or hikes!) We started in Almont, Colorado below the pass on the west side.

How to Get There From Denver or Colorado Springs
From Denver:
Take US-285 S toward Buena Vista (~2.5ā3 hours)
In Buena Vista, turn west onto County Road 306
Continue driving up and over the pass to Taylor Park
From Colorado Springs:
Take US-24 W to Johnson Village
Turn left (south) onto US-285 into Buena Vista
Turn west onto County Road 306Ā and head toward the summit
Once you reach the top, the road becomes County Road 209Ā on the western slope.
š« Note:Ā This road is closed in winterĀ and may not reopen until late spring due to snowpack. Always check CDOTĀ or local travel updatesĀ before making the trip.
